The head of Odesa explained why at the beginning of the invasion the metropolitan of the Moscow church traveled along the coast with an icon.

Metropolitan Agafangel prevented the landing of the Russian descent in Odesa
According to the head of the Odesa regional military administration, Oleg Kiper, the Metropolitan of Odesa and Izmail, Agafangel, prevented the landing of the Russian desant in Odesa. He shared this information in the program 'Moseychuk+'.
Kiper mentioned that the metropolitan traveled along the coast with an icon at the beginning of the invasion to thwart the landing. This was possible because a storm had been raging at sea for 10 days, which interrupted the occupiers' plans.
Kiper also emphasizes that this strike on the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral was aimed at the actions of the metropolitan at the beginning of the war. Agafangel stood for Ukraine and forbade mentioning Kyrylo and Putin. In the early days of the war, he also took an icon and traveled along the coastline of the Odesa region to prevent Russian ships from landing troops. However, after 10 days, a storm began in the Black Sea, so the landing could not approach the shores of the region.
It is worth noting that more than 30 archbishops of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate condemned the actions of the Russian Orthodox Church regarding the liberation of bishops of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the occupied territories.
This fact came as a surprise since more than a third of the bishops of the UOC MP signed an open letter condemning Moscow's actions. Previously, 400 priests of the Moscow Patriarchate addressed Metropolitan Onufriy with a request to break relations with the Russian Orthodox Church after the rocket attack on the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral in Odesa. The initiator of these appeals was Metropolitan Agafangel.
