Drivers in Poland began to avoid fines by shifting blame to Ukrainians.

Polish drivers use a cunning way to avoid a speeding ticket by claiming that a Ukrainian citizen was behind the wheel. This trick is especially popular among motorcyclists who hide their identity under a helmet.
New speed control cameras in Poland focus on the rear of the car and the license plate. The police rely on these photos and contact the owner to name the driver who violated the rules. But Poles quickly realized that the police cannot conduct investigations regarding non-EU citizens due to identification issues.
The Polish police acknowledge that they do not have a reliable system for exchanging information about drivers with non-EU countries such as Ukraine or Belarus. Because of this, many cases have to be closed because it is simply impossible to establish the identity of the culprit.
Refusal to name the real driver is punishable by a fine of up to 8000 zlotys, and providing false information is a criminal offense with the possibility of imprisonment for up to three years.
Legal experts warn that such actions can have serious consequences, even if the driver avoids a fine now. Polish authorities are looking for ways to solve this problem, such as access to the CANARD system for border guards, but this does not solve the issue with fake Ukrainian drivers.
Ukrainian drivers have been warned about possible problems at the border with Poland.
