Trump strengthens control over the border with Mexico: what it means.

U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a directive to expand control over federal lands near the border with Mexico. This was reported by Bloomberg. In a memorandum published on April 11, Trump instructed several ministers to transfer jurisdiction of federal lands at the border with Mexico to the Department of Defense in order to combat illegal immigration. One of these areas is the Roosevelt Reservation - a narrow strip of land along the southwestern border of Arizona, New Mexico, and California (excluding Indian reservations).
According to the directive, this opens up the possibility for 'conducting military operations, as outlined in this memorandum, on military installations' along the border. Moreover, the U.S. leader has authorized the military to carry out tasks 'including the construction of border barriers and the placement of detection and monitoring equipment,' as well as designating these areas as 'national defense zones.'
The order also allows the Secretary of Defense to 'exclude individuals from military installation territory' under the prescribed authorities, potentially paving the way for the deportation of migrants. Initially, these powers will be implemented in a 'limited sector of federal lands,' with further assessment after 45 days. Since returning to the White House, Trump has ramped up the deportation of illegal immigrants, aiming to fulfill his campaign promises to combat illegal immigration and ensure the security of the southwestern U.S. border.
Earlier reports stated that Britain and France are preparing a security guarantee plan for Ukraine for Trump’s consideration.
