Tesla plans to produce a six-seater Model Y in China.

Tesla plans to produce a six-seater version of the Model Y in China from the end of 2025
Reuters reports that Tesla is trying to improve its best-selling but outdated electric car model. Recently, the company has been facing competition, leading to a loss of its share in the global market. Tesla has approached its suppliers to prepare for an increase in Model Y production at the gigafactory in Shanghai.
Production plans are currently unknown. It is noted that the plant will be expanded by additional land plots. Model Y began to be sold in 2020 and will be upgraded under the name Juniper. The release of the five-seater electric car was originally planned for 2024 but was postponed to 2025.
Tesla sells the Model Y in the US, but due to the tightness in the third row, it is not widespread in China. The six-seater model will help Tesla highlight its position in the Chinese market.
In the US, the company will further focus on autonomous driving technologies and robotaxi development. The Model Y is the best-selling car in China, and in the first half of 2024, Tesla sold more than 207,000 units. Having already surpassed Tesla, German manufacturer BMW has led the European electric vehicle market thanks to the new i4 and iX1 models.
