The Director of the Security Sector Reform Agency, Viktor Yahun, noted that Russia can no longer use tactical nuclear weapons against Ukraine. The reason for this is the warning from Russia's allies, including China and India, that they do not support the use of nuclear weapons against a country that does not possess nuclear weapons.
'Russia missed the moment when it could have used tactical nuclear weapons against Ukraine. Regarding strategic weapons, there are also no questions arising. China and India, our allies and partners, have warned Russia multiple times about the impossibility of using nuclear weapons against a non-nuclear state,' he stated.
Yahun recalled that Russia hoped for the possibility of striking Ukraine with the support of countries that possess nuclear weapons.
'It is clear that we are dealing with an unclear and inadequate policy of Russia, and they can make any decision. Especially after what they did with the Kakhovka Reservoir. But experts believe that Putin is simply afraid to make a decision that would plunge the world into World War III,' Yahun noted.
