The expert warns of critical consequences from the increase in utility tariffs

Utility expert Oleg Popenko expressed outrage at the government's plans to increase gas and electricity tariffs. According to him, this will lead to a real increase in costs by 300%, making utility services unaffordable for the majority of the population.

'It's not about 50%, but we are currently paying 7 hryvnias 96 kopecks for gas. In fact, we are talking about a 300% increase over the market price of gas. And this is fundamentally different from what has been published in the news.'

Social catastrophe and rising service costs

Popenko emphasized that the increase in tariffs will be fatal for a large number of citizens, as many Ukrainians will not be able to pay such high bills. Currently, the price of gas on the Ukrainian market can reach 30 thousand hryvnias per thousand cubic meters, which is too high for most of the population.

Popenko also discussed possible issues with increasing subsidies in the event of tariff hikes. Additionally, the expert warned of possible consequences in the form of mass abandonment of housing, citing similar situations in other cities of Ukraine.
