Election Crisis in Romania: How Trump and Putin Attack European Centrism.

Romania: Political Crisis and Threat to Democracy
Romania, a neighbor of Ukraine with a population of 19 million, has found itself at the center of a political conflict between the USA and European centrists. Europeans are concerned about Russian manipulation in the country's elections.
In November last year, the ultra-nationalist candidate and pro-Russian Kelín Georgescu suddenly emerged and won the first round of elections, provoking a constitutional crisis. This crisis has paralyzed Romania.
In December, before the second round of elections, the constitutional court stated that the elections were compromised and their results should be annulled. The re-elections are scheduled for May.
The latest decision of the electoral authorities is to prohibit Georgescu from participating in the elections. He was given a few days to appeal, but his chances of success are quite slim.
Romanian democracy is under threat due to disillusionment with the political establishment. Georgescu's proposals for radical changes have caused outrage among many citizens and observers.
There have also been disputes between EU supporters who fear Russian influence and those who call for non-interference in the affairs of other countries. Elon Musk and US Vice President JD Vance have shared their thoughts on this situation.
Issues in relations with Russia and the USA concern Bucharest. Previously, Romania had a pro-Western policy, relying on the USA, but now the situation has changed during Trump's presidency, and its pro-European political culture is under threat. Romania is seeking an alliance with the USA, but this does not mean a complete turning away from Russia.
