Postponement of Serie A matches due to the death of Pope Francis
Today, April 21, due to the death of Pope Francis, the matches of the Italian Serie A have been postponed. The meetings 'Torino' - 'Udinese', 'Cagliari' - 'Fiorentina', 'Genoa' - 'Lazio' and 'Parma' - 'Juventus' have been canceled. An updated date for the matches will be published later. Serie A announced a corresponding statement on social media.
Francis, who held the position of Pope since 2013, passed away at 7:35 AM. 'His example of serving the Lord and love for the poorest will always be with us,' said Cardinal Kevin Farrell.
Prior to his demise, Francis suffered from bronchitis, which turned into a chronic condition. He developed pneumonia, and doctors even considered the possibility of discontinuing treatment. Recently, Francis greatly limited his activity and adhered to doctors' recommendations for recovery. The Pope's last public appearances occurred after his return to the Vatican, but he did not appear for the Easter celebration. Instead, he appeared on the balcony of St. Peter's and delivered an Easter message.
The death of Pope Francis deeply affected Italy and the entire world. A new Pope has been elected, but many memorable words and deeds remain that will forever be remembered.
