On July 29, 2024, cyber specialists of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine carried out a large-scale attack on the Central Bank of the Russian Federation.
It is reported that from 11:00 Kyiv Time, the resources of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation were operating intermittently or were completely unavailable to users. The financial institution acknowledges the fact of the cyber strike and notes that the intensity of the attack continues to increase.
The Central Bank of the Russian Federation is the main first-tier bank and, in cooperation with the government of Russia, implements a unified state credit policy. The consequences of the cyber attack became large-scale, as Russian users lost access to the online services of Zenith Bank and Gazprombank. Moreover, the situation is complicated by the lack of a stable internet connection, as telecommunications service providers in the Russian Federation have also become targets of cyber attacks.
Recall that on July 27, the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine attacked the banking sector of Russia, and problems with cash withdrawals began.
