Expert: Business Interest in Green Energy Will Revive After Implementation of European Environmental Incentives.

The business community is actively transitioning to the use of green electricity in their production processes if tax benefits are provided for this. This was stated by Olga Evstigneyeva, an expert in climate economics and advocacy for sponsoring European integration reforms. She also emphasized that this is particularly beneficial for exporting enterprises supplying their products to the European Union.
«If you accordingly modernize and transition to more environmentally friendly technologies, you get the opportunity to pay less eco-tax. It will depend on the carbon efficiency level of your company», – noted Evstigneyeva.
She supported her opinion with an example from the metallurgical industry, where electricity is one of the main cost components of production. The introduction of green electricity in this sector can lead to significant economic benefits for companies.
«Especially considering that by 2026 the eco-tax system will become payable», – she added.
Evstigneyeva noted that the European Union has a mechanism of origin guarantees that regulates the use of green energy. This is a necessary condition for companies wishing to reduce their tax expenses.
«This is not just a sacrifice for the good, but a mandatory requirement. It is as much a component of their financial, non-financial, and accounting reports as paying less tax», – explained Evstigneyeva.
It was previously reported that the State Enterprise «Guaranteed Buyer» predicts low demand for guarantees of origin of green electricity due to a lack of incentives for business. Therefore, the introduction of tax incentives for enterprises wishing to switch to renewable energy sources is proposed.
According to the general director of the state enterprise, it is necessary to consider changes in the legislation to reduce the taxation volume for the use of green energy and guarantees of its origin.
