Russia's actions in response to the AFU operation in the Kursk region were considered
Experts from British intelligence analyzed the situation in the Russo-Ukrainian war. According to a social media post by the UK's Ministry of Defence on platform X, the review was published on August 30th.
The Ukrainian AFU continue their offensive in the Kursk region, and the Russian command is trying to defend this territory. One of the reinforced units, "BARS-Kursk," consists of volunteers, but their contribution is not significant for the Russian army over the month.
Additionally, in Kursk, there was an announcement of the recruitment of mercenaries into the so-called "BARS-Kursk" to maintain order in the region. However, their service is short-term — six months.
According to experts, the idea of creating active reserve combat units in Russia emerged in 2021. But after the invasion of Ukraine began, this plan changed, and now these units primarily consist of light infantry.
The UK believes that the decision to recruit for “BARS-Kursk” is a reaction to the AFU's actions in the Kursk region. However, they believe that this recruitment will not have a significant impact on the Russian army, as Russia's priority remains another territory.
Furthermore, experts note that the statements by Russian officials about the desire for negotiations do not align with other statements indicating a high level of aggression from Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin towards Ukraine.
