The Academy of Sciences explained what happened to air quality in February.

In Ukraine, high levels of atmospheric pollution were observed in February 2025, especially in large cities. This was reported by the press service of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (NASU).
Experts from the Atmospheric Monitoring Department of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Institute of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine and NASU collected and analyzed data on air quality. They found that the reasons for the high levels of atmospheric pollution in February 2025 are related to emissions from transport and industry, as well as meteorological conditions.
The experts from NASU explained that the amount of emissions of pollutants, their concentration levels, and meteorological conditions affect the formation of atmospheric pollution levels. This is particularly evident in cities due to the large number of vehicles and industrial enterprises.
The impact of military actions on air quality in February 2025 was episodic and did not significantly affect the overall distribution of pollution across Ukraine, NASU reported.
It is emphasized that to improve air quality in cities, it is important to respond to meteorological conditions that contribute to high atmospheric pollution.
Abnormally warm weather has awakened reptiles
In addition, in Ukraine, reptiles, including vipers and bears, have awakened due to abnormally warm weather. Scientists note that this is a dangerous phenomenon that is unusual for winter. The appearance of such animals is an anomaly and is associated with climate change.
