How to address the President of Moldova. Linguist explained how to write correctly: 'Maya' or 'Maiya'.

Philologist Olga Vasilyeva clarified the new rules of Ukrainian spelling, which relate to the writing of names, including the name of the President of Moldova Maya. According to the updated spelling, the name 'Maya' and the name of the tribe 'maya' are now written without the letter 'й'. This is explained by the new paragraph 126, which states that the sound [j] in the combinations [je], [ji], [ju], [ja] is conveyed using the letters є, ї, ю, я.
These new rules apply both to the name of the tribe 'maya' and to the name 'Maya'. However, if 'Maiya' is recorded in the passport, changing documents depends on the will of the individual. The new spelling does not require citizens to change their documents.
Similarly, the new rules concern the writing of patronymics. Instead of 'Ihorovych', now it should be written 'Ihorovich'. The staff of the CNAPs will use new variants during registration, but existing documents remain valid and can be changed if the owner wishes.
These innovations aim to regulate spelling and adapt language norms to modernity. At the same Time, they leave room for individual choice and do not oblige changes to documents.
It is worth noting that 'Kofe' is not considered a literary norm in the Ukrainian language. This was stated by philologist Olga Vasilyeva.
Earlier, the philologist explained the common mistake of Ukrainians between 'ozhe' and 'vidtak'. These words are often confused in meaning, notes the linguist.
Additionally, Olga Vasilyeva analyzed the lyrics of Olya Polyakova's song and determined whether there exists the Ukrainian word 'svobodny'. Olya Polyakova translated her song 'Queen of the Night' and now sings 'You are now free, go wherever you want...'.
